Choice- ND500

I spent my choice rotation at Washington Hospital where I followed the Food Service Director (FSD) and attended meetings with her. At these meetings I learned about the many roles the FSD plays and the interaction between the dietary department and other disciplines, including doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, hospital administration and more. I also learned about budgeting, forecasting, and menu development.

In addition, I attended outpatient diabetes education counseling, where I gained experience in diabetes counseling, insulin and medication usage, and gained more experience motivational interviewing.

Objectives for Choice Rotation:

By the end of the rotation, I will have increased my knowledge and understanding of the role to FSD plays as the liasion for the Food and Nutrition Department by attending daily meetings with the Food Service Director.

By the end of the rotation, I will have observed outpatient diabetes education sessions and will be able to distinguish the differences in approach and treatment between in-patient and outpatient diabetes nutrition management.
