Jennifer has acquired and developed a variety of skills through her academic, professional, and personal experiences. Some of these skills include effective communication and interpersonal skills, time management and multitasking, and critical thinking and problem solving. Jennifer has a passion for learning and she is committed to increasing her knowledge in the field. She is fluent in spanish and is able to converse comfortably about nutrition topics. Jennifer has also developed proficiency in essential medical office tasks like managing spreadsheets and medical record entry.

Interpersonal Skills

Jennifer has over 13 years of customer service experience ranging from lifeguarding, to working in all sectors of food service and retail, to consulting and counseling clients regarding diet and nutrition. Her varied experience has exposed her to different demographics and environments which has resulted in a comfortable and easy approach to talking to new people. Her fluency in Spanish has allowed her to effectively communicate and relate to the Hispanic community. She is empathetic, and is able to relate to other's needs in order to best serve them. Above all, she loves meeting new people and learning their stories. She also enjoys talking to anyone about her passion for the beauty and wonders of food and nutrition.

Time Management

Jennifer has been successfully able to balance full time enrollment at the University of Alabama while concurrantly working a full time job. Being a distance student has strengthened her ability to prioritize projects and has made her become more self-directed, leading her to success in the classroom and in the office.

Active Learning

Jennifer has drive and passion for learning new information. She understands that concepts in health and science build upon each other and that in order to improve people's lives through knowledge of dietetics she must constantly be committed to learning about nutrition, dietetics and the many overlapping fields. To do this proficiently, she finds that knowing how to utilize appropriate resources, not being afraid to ask for help, and being adequately prepared allow her to successfully promote and advance the profession of dietetics.

Critical Thinking

problem solving and decision making

As a dietetic assistant Jennifer actively assesses diet orders against physician's recommendations and resolves any discrepancies when needed. Holding a position as a server in busy restaurants not only strengthens her time management skills, but also puts her in situations that involve quick decision-making and problem solving.
